Shane Breen

Born in Limerick, Shane got his first pony at the age of five and hunted throughout his childhood. He believes this hunting background has stood him in good stead, especially helping to win many derby style competitions including the Hickstead Speed Derby and the Hickstead Eventing Grand Prix. Shane represented Ireland at Pony level becoming European Silver Medallist and winning the opportunity to spend some time in Nelson Pessoa’s yard in Europe, and then progressed through Junior and Young rider teams to the Irish National Team.

In 2007 Shane married Chloe, daughter of Hickstead founder Douglas Bunn and has since run the successful operation that is Breen Equestrian from Hickstead. Clear rounds from Shane have contributed to many Irish Nations Cup victories, including those at Dublin in 2006 & 2011 and Hickstead in 2012, and also to Ireland's Bronze medal at the Furisiyya Nations Cup final in Barcelona 2012. Shane cites his Grand Prix win at Dublin Horse Show in 2019 with Z7 Ipswich as one of his most memorable experiences.

Amy Inglis

I have always had a love for horses. Both my parents were showjumpers so I have been around them for as long as I can remember! Horses are my whole life now and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I have been very lucky to have some fantastic horses throughout my career so far. And a very successful pony, junior and Young Rider career. It is a tough sport, it takes a lot of hard work, but it’s definitely worth it for those winning days

when the hard work pays off. When I get some free time at home (not very often!) I like to spend time with my friends -usually treating ourselves to a nice meal out. Whilst I’m on the road competing, I like to read a book or watch a movie at the end of a long day to relax. But usually there’s not much time for relaxing at competitions!

MY HORSES My best horse is Wishes, she is a 11 year old mare. She is a fiery chestnut, and a real fighter in the ring. She is very special to us as she is a homebred. Jule Van Den Tinnenpot is a 10-year-old mare, also chestnut! She is a a strong mare, she’s always excited to go in the ring, she always tries her best. Every Way is a 15-year-old bay mare. She is a small horse, but she doesn’t think she is! She has a huge stride and has won many classes for me. I won my first world ranking class with her. I’m also lucky to have some very promising young horses which I’m very excited about!

Ellen Whitaker

I come from a big family of show jumpers. I started riding very young. Show jumping and horses have been my passion for as long as I can remember. I did my first affiliated pony show aged 5 (it didn’t go very well!) but that’s when the big stuff began. I was and still am very inspired by my family, who have been very successful in the sport. It was a dream come true to eventually join them at the top of the sport competing alongside them in competitions as great as Championships, Nations Cups and Grand Prix’s.

A very special moment for me was coming 2nd (obviously first would have been nicer) in the famous Hickstead Derby to my uncle John Whitaker when I was 18 with my hero of a horse Locarno 62. He was 8 at the time. I grew up watching my hero’s battle that class. It also meant a lot to my grandparents which made it very special. I competed at the Pony European Championships in Vejer de la Frontera when I was 14, where I met my first owner (Mr Julian Donn) who went on to support me hugely, buying Locarno 62 at the Psi auction as a 5-year-old when I was 15. I consider myself hugely lucky to have had this opportunity and it opened up so many doors for me at a very young age.

One of them was being selected for the senior European championships in San Patrigano (Italy) when I was 19 and Locarno 62 was 9. Dawn and Amy Makin came on board when I was 20 and shortly after I was selected for the my 2nd senior European Championships in Mannheim (Germany) alongside my uncles John and Michael. And together with David McPhearson and a triple clear from Locarno 62 we managed to win the team Bronze medal and qualify for the Beijing Olympics. This was another one of my all-time favourite moments in show jumping so far. And a feeling I will never forget! I am a big tennis fan. I used to play a lot as a child and teenager.

I am a big fan of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. All completely different players with inspiring stories behind their success. Roger Federer’s classic style and elegance as a player is beautiful to watch. I love sport - any sport - and have huge respect for sportspeople and the stories and hard work behind them. I became celiac after I had my children. This is an auto immune condition which means I am extremely allergic to gluten. I am also lactose and dairy intolerant, so I cook quite a lot and have developed an interest in food and nutrition. To relax I love nothing more than being with my children. It’s a busy life being a sportsperson and a mum. It can be very challenging and very rewarding. I enjoy every moment.

Holly Colgate

Holly Colgate Cooke is an amazing Dressage Rider. She has had Lorenzo her horse since he was an unbacked 6-year-old and he is now 13! She spent the first few years letting him grow into himself and introduced competing slowly as he was scared of his own shadow, so she had to spend a lot of time showing him the world. Holly is super lucky to train regularly with her mum Zoe Sopp ex international rider! Back in 2017 Holly and Lorenzo became Elementary Regionals and National Champions; 2018 Medium silver Freestyle Winter Champions and they are also 2019 double Advanced Medium Silver Region champions. Last summer she started our Small tour career At the Hickstead Dressage Masters in the Pre St George-Championships where she was Reserve Champion overall.

They are the 2019 Midway PSG Champions. In March 2020 they were selected for their first Small Tour International at Keysoe CDI3* International. It was a big step up for them and they gained so much experience from it and to finish in the top 10 with a couple of spooks she was very proud with that!

Georgia Darlington

My names Georgia Darlington and I'm 20 years old and live in Surrey. I've mainly competed in showing and have done since I was 3 years old as my mum breaks, schools and produces ponies as a living. So I have ridden lots of different ponies since a young age. I have been very lucky to have had some amazing ponies which have given me great results in the showring. Wortley celebration: 2x wins at Horse of the Year Show and a Champion and a reserve champion. And a win at Royal International. 2010/2011. Tynwydd Good Friday: 1st and champion at Horse of the Year Show and 1st at Royal International 2015. Lisa's Dream, who is my current horse has won individual and team gold for the England Working Hunter pony eam for the last 3 years and was also in the International competition last year where we won individual bronze and team silver. At Horse of The Year Show we've had 2x 3rds. We also jumped double clear at the Badminton Mitshibishi Motors Cup last year.

I also have a 6 year old intermediate working hunter who qualifed for Royal International at her first attempt this year. She's going to be an exciting one for the future! As well as my own 2 horses I also compete for owners and I would have had 8 to show this year had the season gone ahead ranging for 12h Welsh Section A's to a riding horse. As well as showing I also event and show jump affiliated, and hunt in the winter. I'm currently working as a freelance rider and am very busy riding lots of different horses and ponies
