A traditional family run business, Equine America UK Ltd was founded in 1997 by Phil and Julie Middleton. Their sons, Lee and Karl, took over the reins in 2018. Wishing to maintain the trusted image of the Equine America brand, whilst moving it into the 21st century, they brought on board world-leading equine nutritionist Deborah Lucas MSc.Eq.S.,CBiol., R.Nutr. and began the process of moving all manufacturing from the USA to the UK.  Deborah is now instrumental in the design and formulation of all Equine America products, from the original Cortaflex to a full range of highly effective supplements and external applications for horses, dogs, cats and people.

All products are now manufactured solely in the UK, in food industry standard factories, using only the freshest, most innovative and effective ingredients available from approved suppliers. We use state of the art, unique, fingerprint laser quality testing on every single ingredient to ensure a uniform strength and quality along with an exclusive mixing process to ensure that each scoop contains equal amounts of active ingredients. Our BETA NOPS and UFAS accreditations reassure customers that our products do not contain prohibited substances. We also comply with the regulations administered by the UK Veterinary Medicines Directorate and the Food Standards Agency.

Our recently introduced “30-day money back guarantee”– both in-store and online - serves to reinforce the total confidence that we have in our products.
The Science behind our Products
Cortaflex
Cortaflex includes vital trace elements and precursors (or building blocks) of key compounds such as glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans which are necessary for the production and maintenance of healthy cartilage and joint fluid, which also plays an important role in shock absorbing and lubrication within the joint.
Amino Acids
Amino acids such as glutamic acid - converted in the horse’s body to provide glutamine, which combines with glucose to form glucosamine – which itself then combines with other compounds to help give cartilage its flexibility and “sponginess”.
Copper, Manganese & Silicon
Are important trace elements which are all needed to help the horse produce his own chondroitin, (another important structural compound in cartilage), collagen and hyaluronic acid.
Collagen
An important compound needed by the chondrocytes to produce the water based matrix of the cartilage. Collagen helps to give cartilage its strength. (We utilize a sustainable and ethical source of marine derived collagen.)
Hyaluronic acid (HA)
Is a key component of joint fluid, which bathes the joint, and acts and a lubricant and shock absorber.

Recent Additions

More recently, as well as providing these vital building blocks, MSM (methylsulphonylmethane ) has been added to the Cortaflex supplements, to provide a bio-available source of sulphur, which is important in the repair process of the sulphur containing bonds in the cartilage matrix. MSM is also thought to have anti-inflammatory properties. Cortaflex Super Fenn also contains Boswellia, a plant known for its anti-inflammatory properties, to help reduce the on-going destruction of cartilage following micro-trauma and the resulting inflammatory responses arising from harder work.
