What is Cortaflex?
The Cortaflex range were amongst the first joint supplements to be widely and successfully used in all types of horses and ponies in America, and were introduced to the UK some 25 years ago. They are now used all over the world, with well over 2 million units sold! They included then, and still include now, vital trace elements and precursors (or building blocks) of key compounds such as glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans which are necessary for the production and maintenance of healthy cartilage (the spongy, elastic, shock absorbing material found on the ends of bones within a joint) and joint fluid, which also plays an important role in shock absorbing and lubrication within the joint.
Can I buy Equine America supplements anywhere else?
Yes you can! You can either buy direct from our website or in-store from one of 100s of suppliers local to you!
Equine Supplements
Which supplements do I need for my horse?
We provide a range of high quality equine supplements targeting a variety of different issues/areas. The best way to decide which products you wish to purchase for your horse is to browse the Horse Supplement pages on our website and take notes of any of the areas that affect your horse and you wish to start improving. i.e. stronger hooves, jointcare supplements, calming products etc.
There are so many joint supplements to choose from, which should I choose?
Our extensive range of joint supplements can seem overwhelming, but we have carefully designed each supplement, to ensure we have a supplement suitable for every type of horse, whether they are struggling with wear and tear in old age, or just getting started with their competition career. One size does not fit all here! If you are unsure, please contact us, and our experienced team of Vets and Nutritionists will be more than happy to advise you and make sure we can support your horse with the best and most suitable supplement for them.
What is the difference between the Buteless Range and the other EA joint supplements e.g Cortaflex or Kentucky?
Buteless is all about joint comfort – providing anti-inflammatory support and antioxidants, ideal for the older horse with wear and tear, or the hard working competition horse.
Cortaflex and Kentucky contain key chondroprotective ingredients, to focus on joint health. Some of our products, for example Cortaflex Recovery and Kentucky Advanced Joint Powder have a combination of chondroprotective ingredients and support for the anti-inflammatory processes, providing support both joint health and comfort.
Not sure which joint supplement to choose for your horse? Speak to our team of experienced, friendly Vets and Nutritionists, for specific advice for your horse.
What is the difference between Equine America Kentucky and Cortaflex Joint Supplements?
The key difference put very simply, our Kentucky range contains Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Cortaflex does not (deliberately!)! This doesn’t mean one is better than the other, to use the analogy of climbing a mountain, there may be 2 paths to the top, ultimately both will reach the top just in slightly different ways!
Cortaflex is unique in its approach to joint support, by providing the nutritional building blocks for the horse to make their own glycosaminoglycans, when combined with other key ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, collagen and vital trace minerals, making it truly unique. Within the Cortaflex Range there are options to support all types of horse, from the retired companion, right through to the elite competition horse and everything in between.
Kentucky contains Glucosamine, in combination with other key chondroprotective ingredients to support joint health and comfort. With Kentucky Advanced Joint Powder, and Kentucky Solution, again you have differing levels of support to tailor to your individual horse’s requirements.
Not sure which joint supplement to choose for your horse? Speak to our team of experienced, friendly Vets and Nutritionists, for specific advice for your horse or pony.
When would you choose Cortaflex over a Glucosamine product?
Cortaflex excels at supporting the soft tissues (tendons and ligaments), as well as the health of the cartilage. Collagen and Vitamin C are particularly important for this function.
When should I start seeing results?
Each horse is different and may vary. However, you should start to see results within 7-10 days.
What happens if I run out?
We offer next day delivery on all orders before 12PM. Once your supplements arrive we advise to continue your normal, regular feeding schedule. We also offer a subscription service (with discounts) on some of our products, so that you will never have to worry about running out again!
Can I feed my horse multiple supplements at once?
Yes you can feed multiple supplements at once. If you want further clarification please contact our team and tell us which supplements you plan on using.
What size are the scoops for your products?
Different products will offer different feeding directions and scoop sizes, you can find more information here.
Are your supplements suitable for horses/ponies prone to laminitis?
Horse and ponies prone to laminitis require careful dietary management, and are often on a restricted diet to ensure calories and sugar/ starch are kept low. It is commonly accepted that low sugar and starch is kept under a combined total of 10%. Having said that 10% of a 3kg hard feed will be very different from 10% of a 50g supplement, so the daily serve rate needs to be taken into consideration. If you are concerned about your pony or horse and their risk of laminitis, please contact our experienced equine Vets and Nutritionists via our Nutrition helpline, and we would be happy to help you decide if a specific supplement is safe and suitable for your horse or pony when added into their diet.
My horse is fussy, will he/ she eat your supplements?
Our supplements are carefully formulated to ensure palatability and undergo a rigorous testing process to ensure they are eaten well by a wide variety of horse and ponies. Having said that we know that all horses are individuals and some can be a little picky with new feeds. We recommend introducing any new feed or supplement slowly and gradually to a horses diet and mixing it in well, particularly if they are known to be fussy. Our supplements are available in pellet, powder, solution and paste formulations, so often within a product range, you will have a choice and you may find one format suits your horse better than another – it isn’t the same for everyone! With the solutions and pastes you may also have the option of syringing directly into their mouth (if appropriate to do so). Our supplements are covered by our 30 day money back guarantee , reinforcing the confidence we have in our products, so you can try them risk free! For specific advice for individual horses, please contact our Nutrition Helpline and our Vets and Nutritionists are more than happy to help!
How do I decide which Respiratory Product to use?
Within the respiratory range of products there is a large choice to ensure we can provide targeted nutritional support for every horse. We understand that this can be confusing, but to make it easy for you, the name will often help guide you! We have a free nutrition helpline available, so please contact us and we can help you choose the best supplement to support your horse.
Pro-pell or Xtra Boost Hemogen? Which one should I choose?
Both products have high levels of B Vitamins to support energy production, so ideal for supporting those horses that need a bit of extra ‘oomph’ during a busy competition season.
Pro-Pell Plus solution has broader spectrum of vitamins and minerals, whereas Xtra Boost Hemogen focuses on key micronutrients to support horses in training and competition: B vitamins, copper, Zinc and Selenium so ideal for those that are already on a fully fortified competition ration. Hemogen is also iron-free. If you would like nutrition advice, specific for your horse, please contact our team of experienced Vets and Nutritionists for advice.

The BETA-NOPS scheme is a rigorous quality assurance scheme designed to reduce the risk of NOPS (Naturally Occurring Prohibited Substances) in equine feeds and supplements.
To display the BETA-NOPS logo on labels, companies have to be independently audited annually and comply with stringent manufacturing and storage procedures, from field to finished product. This includes sourcing, storage, transport and actual processing.
